Toni Jackson | Counselling & Psychotherapy for Women and Adolescents
Hello! Following is some information about who I am.
In addition to being a mother, community arts worker and traveler, I have worked over the past 20 years in the areas of women and adolescent mental health and wellbeing. I am a Psychotherapist and Counsellor based in Perth, Fremantle and Mundaring, Western Australia. I also provide online counselling across Australia, and have a particular interest in rural and remote clients.
I specialise in working with women around the issues of self-worth, anxiety, trauma, body image and eating disorders. I am a certified Gestalt Therapist, with a BA Psychology and a Grad. Dip. Women’s Studies; and I am a Health At Every Size® (HAES®) practitioner. I am currently training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma. I have a strong interest in trauma therapy and use both body awareness and, at times, art therapy in my work.
My other area of expertise is in working with young people who are struggling with anxiety, self esteem and self identity – including disordered eating, self harm, gender identity and sexuality.
I have a deep compassion for these particular struggles and have dedicated most of my career to supporting young women in particular, in empowering themselves.
Since April 2016, I have also been involved in a community healing project in the East Kimberley, called ARTHEAL. This is a project initiated by the Miriwoong community, run out of the Waringarri Aboriginal Arts centre in Kununurra, Western Australia. We hold art healing workshops, using a combination of art therapy, trauma psycho-education and cultural activities. The purpose of the workshops is to address the incredibly high rates of suicide, suicide grief and trauma within the indigenous community.
In the past, I have worked in a Women’s Refuge with women and children escaping domestic violence; in a dynamic and creative Youth Centre in remote Australia; as a Senior Drug & Alcohol Counsellor in the East Kimberley; in a specialist position created from the Gordon Inquiry, working with young, Indigenous people and their families; and as a therapist for women and adolescents. I have also worked on numerous community arts and therapeutic arts projects.
When I’m not working, I love to hike, kayak, float, read and be creative.
